Mercedes C220 Cabrio information
Mercedes-Benz is one of the luxury brands most easily accessible to the public as far as cars are concerned. With a wide range of models for all tastes they cover a huge segment of the market and in the case of convertibles they have no more and no less than 6 different models to offer the public a number of models difficult to beat by the competition.
The introductory model to the Mercedes Benz convertible segment is the C-Class with its smallest version, the C 220 Cabrio. Taking inspiration from the more expensive models of E-Class and S-Class has a fairly sporty and attractive design for this price range that offers a fun car to drive. It offers with 4 seats and soft top that retains the characteristic elegance of Mercedes Benz models and definitely worth a try.
This car is an ideal convertible for family outings, to use it to go to work, or just for a Sunday stroll attracting looks, and that despite being the most economical model of the Mercedes Benz C-Class is a very solid starting point for the brand and will surely be preferred by drivers.
This car recalls those German classics like the immortal 280 SLc, with a very sporty, but also luxurious, with very fine finishes and technologically updated, remains very current within the concept of Mercedes Benz.
It is an option with fuel economy to take into account, with high-tech transmission and control systems that make the car feel very safe and rigid. You will enjoy driving it very often in any circumstance that comes your way, as it can be used in any weather condition with the top attached.
With four cylinders in line and two versions, diesel and gasoline as the only engine options for this C220. The gasoline version has an output of 184 horsepower and the diesel version with 170 horsepower that are available in a rev range that goes from 3000 to 4200. It is a good number for its 2.1 liters of displacement, which make it capable of offering a maximum torque of 400 minutes from 1400 revolutions.
This engine, which we might consider small, is beneficial for fuel economy. Mercedes Benz claims that in a mixed duty cycle consumes 5 liters per 100km generating approximately 130 grams per kilometer of carbon dioxide, but all this, without sacrificing sportiness as it is able to reach zero to one hundred in 8.1 seconds.
With a length of 4.7 meters, a width without mirrors of 1.8 meters and a height from the ground of 1.4 meters, it is a compact convertible and quite fun to drive. With 1800 kilograms of weight, it is a rather sporty entry-level model for a driver with little experience.
In part this total weight is obtained by the policy of reducing the use of conventional materials by Mercedes Benz, as some elements of the body are made of aluminum, such as the hood, fenders and trunk door. Also due to the redesign of its chassis despite being a convertible, it feels a very rigid vehicle when maneuvering through curves.
The Mercedes-Benz C220 Cabrio is equipped with a 9-speed automatic transmission associated with the Mercedes-Benz patented 4matic system. It consists of an all-wheel drive system with variable torque between the front and rear axles.
This advanced system works by sending traction to the front axle in conditions of good grip. But if the vehicle’s computer shows a loss of grip or a very large difference in the rotation speed of the rear axle, it is able to send up to 50% of the torque to the rear wheels in milliseconds of a second.
This system has 2 working programs, ECO and Sport Manual. With the ECO setting, very little torque is transmitted to the rear axle, achieving a smooth ride and acting as a fuel-saving device. With the Sport Manual setting, the shifting time is shortened and a little more torque is sent to the rear axle for better traction.
With this transmission can be combined with the Airmatic air suspension package patented by Mercedes-Benz and offers comfortable and sporty driving modes as desired by the driver. It offers stabilization systems ideal for driving on wet pavement.
It also adds an optional sports package which sharpens a little more suspension and power steering, also lowering the height of the body by 15 millimeters. Another optional option is the Burmester sound system, ideal for a ride with good background music courtesy of these beautiful speakers.
This car based on its top models in the range, has a fairly balanced design with very well designed proportions, a long hood and a high side line along with an aggressive front end and a wide grille with aerodynamic and cooling purpose.
When the canvas is on you get a very similar line to the coupe version, making it quite pleasing to the eye. This canvas soft top with its multilayer construction technology, is very efficient in terms of soundproofing and acoustic insulation that comes available in 3 colors.
It gives a classic look quite marked as the models of the mid-70s Mercedes Benz. With the soft top in place and the trunk space empty, the total storage capacity is approximately 360 liters. With the soft top system stowed this is reduced to approximately 285 liters which is a fairly generous space for a car of these characteristics.
The second row is small for normal-sized adults, being rather ideal for small children or use that space as an extra for storage. If this is not enough, we have the option of folding them down with the two buttons on each side of the seats.
