Mercedes GLE information
In 1997, Mercedes-Benz launched a car with a high-end SUV body type, something quite innovative for premium brands, and that, at that time, was called M-Class.
In 2015 it was renamed GLE, a high-end sport utility vehicle with excellent finishes, which now in 2019 undergoes an update, both technologically and design-wise, more similar to the latest trend models of the brand. This update was presented in early 2019 with design elements similar to those of the Pickup launched by Mercedes Benz X-Class, but obviously with SUV structure.
Being the aerodynamics the point in favor of this model that wanted to exploit the Mercedes- Benz design team, who indicate with the official figures obtained from its data sheet, which has a coefficient of friction of 0.29. That is, 0.03 less than the previous version, and that is achieved thanks to design elements such as mirrors more harmonious with the air flow, spoilers, and tires that offer less resistance.
The Mercedes Benz GLS, 2019 is a very striking option to consider if you want a full 5-seater SUV, but with the ability to equip it in a sporty way. An important fact is that the GLE obtained 5 stars in the EuroNcap crash tests 95% approving for adult occupant and 89% child protection, in addition to its active safety system achieved 71% approval among the certification technicians.
With its trunk that offers a volume of 825 liters when the third row is removed and 2055 liters with the second row retracted, it is a very good choice for family trips loaded with luggage. Also a feature of its air suspension is that it lowers the rear up to 40mm to facilitate loading and unloading of any heavy or bulky objects you have in the trunk, a feature that we assure you, you will appreciate at some point.
In terms of engines the GLE was updated with a new 6-cylinder in-line diesel engine, with 3.0 liters and 367 horsepower at 500 Newton of maximum torque that also based on the hybridization initiative that the company is going through, has a 48-volt electric system. It is supported by Mercedes Benz EQ Boost technology that can provide up to 22 additional horsepower and 250 Newton of torque at times when required.
In addition, it was new diesel version 6 in line there are also three gasoline configurations, the least powerful version that comes in a 4-cylinder, an intermediate with a V6 and the most powerful that comes with the V8, traditional Mercedes- Benz. Also the GLE 220 and GLE 250 using a 2.1 liter 4-cylinder diesel engine.
For the gasoline versions the GLE 250 uses a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, the GLE 43, a 3.0-liter V6 and the GLE 63 a 4.0-liter v8. With external dimensions of 4.60 meters long, 1.80 wide and 1.64 high, plus a wheelbase of 2.87 that offers enough space for 5 full seats.
The trunk has a capacity of 550 liters, a fairly acceptable figure compared to other models in the segment, and in the most basic versions its weight is around 1850 kilograms and in the most complete and powerful version passes a little over 2 tons.
All offered versions of the GLE incorporate the Mercedes Benz 4Matic all-wheel drive and the high-tech 9G-Tronic gearbox with torque converter, for smoother and more comfortable shifts for the public, except for the top-of-the-line GLE63 model.
This uses an oil-immersed multi-plate clutch instead of the torque converter, to make better and faster use of the torque of the V8 engine with which this top-of-the-line version comes, and for which AMG offers a package.
As an extra point with respect to the competition Mercedes Benz does not put equipment levels, or limitations when equipping your vehicle, but the user can choose the package that most appeals to him. Two of the most popular are the AMG Line offroad, as you might guess, the first one is sportier, more aggressive, and with the engine tuned to deliver power in a more dynamic way.
The second is geared more towards an adventurous public and that is encouraged to travel roads off the highway or urban environment. There is also the Premium package, which adds elements such as blind spot control and panoramic sunroof that can be opened with electric blinds system.
You can access the parking package, which activates all cameras around the vehicle network, and proximity sensors to avoid collisions. There is also an extra comfort package for the front seats that includes ventilation and heating.
The passenger compartment of the GLE involves an all-digital infotainment concept that Mercedes-Benz is introducing to its latest models with two large 12.3-inch screens as instrument panel. These replace the traditional dashboard that brands have been accustomed to all our lives.
The center console has two wide armrests for the pilot and co-pilot, along with the updated version of the new steering wheel that are beginning to equip the high-end Mercedes-Benz that is in this vehicle.
As far as multimedia is concerned, it includes the MBUX system, which allows various display modes for the navigation box, as well as an augmented reality system for the browser and a voice assistant similar to Apple’s Siri, but called “Hello Mercedes”. For example, you could command it to tune to your favorite radio station or the one you tune to most often.
It also has biometric functions such as turning the reading light on or off by simply putting your hand near the rearview mirror. You can access useful information for off-road environments such as vehicle inclination, how much torque is sent to each axle and the altitude of the terrain, among other data.
