Porsche 911 Cabrio information
The legendary Porsche 911 Carrera arrives this time in its cabrio version, with a canvas roof that gives a boost to its sportiness, and that, if you remove it, literally opens the sky to new driving experiences.
Porsche offers in all its models historical references, such as, for example, the mythical ignition key on the left side, which Ferdinand Porsche thought was more practical because at the time of starting a race, you could have one hand on the ignition key and another on the gearshift lever. That’s how competition-oriented Porsche’s thinking was.
So successful has this model been that in mid-2018 the 1 millionth unit was produced, which for its eighth generation makes it clear how well positioned this car is in the market. And is that many claim that no brand has been able to achieve the driving sensation provided by a Porsche with its characteristic dynamism.
The convertible version of the 911 offers the same historic classic air of the model, but with the possibility of experiencing new sensations if we decide to lower the hood. It has the same 3.0 boxer engine of the coupe version, the performance is practically the same, but with the possibility of having greater airs of freedom at the time of some summer ride.
With attractive fuel consumption is an option to consider, in addition to all the safety systems and equipment that Porsche offers, in which it should be noted have always been leaders in the market, in any of its models.
Definitely a Porsche whatever it is an attractive option to consider, and if you have that interest in the company this convertible version will not disappoint. It is one of the most attractive convertibles in this market segment with the added bonus of the well-known German reliability.
With the same power unit that mounts its brother coupe which consists of a 3.0 liter twin turbo boxer 6-cylinder with 385 horsepower at 6500 revolutions per minute. It has a maximum torque of 450 Newton per meter in a rev range that goes from 1950 to 5000 turns.
Unlike its brother the Coupe, the cabrio, being lighter, decreases by two tenths the acceleration from 0 to 100 taking it to 3.9 seconds and the Sport Chrono package is included at 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 306 kilometers per hour.
At 4.5 meters long and 1.82 meters wide, it is one of the most compact convertible options and quite fun to drive. With a weight of 1560 kilograms, it offers a cargo capacity of 132 liters in the trunk, but we must remember that if you buy a car with these characteristics, traveling with luggage is not your priority.
This car boasts a capacity of 67 liters of fuel and that according to Euro6 this car homologates in a combined cycle of 8.9 liters per 100 kilometers with emissions of 205 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer.
The car mounts 19-inch wheels at the front, and 20 inches at the rear axle, the same configuration as in the coupe version, as in all Porsche, yellow calipers mean carboceramic brakes, which, if you are a daring driver you will appreciate. These brakes behave better in extreme conditions and allow you to brake a little later, which translates into faster cornering.
Like all versions of the Porsche 911 cabrio or also known by the name 991, mounts the dual clutch system and 8-speed PDK. Acronym for Porsche Doppelkuplung, which ensures smooth and virtually imperceptible changes, and with the well-developed Porsche electronics ensures a driving experience, which all those who have tested claim is the best on the market.
In terms of equipment, the design of the new Porsche 911 breaks new ground by emphasizing the strengths, but also expanding it with new possibilities. One of these examples is seen in the internal part more specifically, in the dashboard with a huge central analog tachometer reminiscent of those used by Porsche for a lifetime. It combines two screens that put at our fingertips all the necessary data when driving.
The horizontal lines are quite sober partly because all the control elements are within reach of the hand on the left side very close to the driver, which clears a little the central part of the instrument console.
Next to the dashboard is the 10.9-inch HD touchscreen PCM acronym for Porsche Communication Management that can connect you online to access any information you want.
This Porsche also gives us the ability to equip several driving packages, which vary and tune different suspension settings, throttle response, and vehicle exhaust. These modes are Sport, Sport Chrono, and PSM Sport, which in combination give us the ability to drive more aggressively.
For the first time the PSM Sport suspension is available for this cabrio model, with this version the body height is lowered by 10 mm, the suspension springs are stiffer and shorter.
The system of stabilizer bars present on both axles was reinforced. These details, such as the stiffer springs, increase the stiffness of the suspension, giving the car more dynamic reactions and a more balanced presence on the road and on the track.
All these modifications manage to significantly affect its ability for everyday use, in addition to this the front spoiler also has the sportiest geometry. The rear spoiler is lengthened a little more in order to improve dynamic efficiency.
The car also equips a warning and braking assistant that reduces the danger of collision with cars, pedestrians and cyclists within the limits of the system. It works with the help of a front camera that recognizes if there is any kind of object in the vicinity of the vehicle and, in the first warning mode, alerts the driver with a visual and acoustic signal.
In the second stage, this assistant alerts the driver by shaking the brake in case the proximity of the vehicle to the object is too close, and in the third stage, automatic emergency braking is possible.
