Porsche Carrera 911 information
The first generation of the Porsche 911 was presented at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt on September 12, 1963 as the replacement for the Porsche 356.
We all know the origin of its name, which in the first instance was to be Porsche 901, but after a dispute with another French brand that we will not mention, the name had to be changed to 911.
It is a car quite oriented to racing, the new eighth generation 911, is the sum of the outstanding components of all its predecessors, so it maintains its characteristic aerodynamic shape that puts functionality over aesthetics.
With the other characteristic element of Porsche present which is the technology oriented to victory in competition and efficiency in numbers, something quite German, and is that, despite updating the model in several aspects, the philosophy that if something works, why change it? is maintained.
The Porsche 911 carrera is a very outstanding option to consider, with its particular 3.0 liter Boxer engine configuration, but now, with steroids injecting its twin-turbo torque. This 6-cylinder version puts us on our right toe with a wild 385 horsepower, which, for this historic compact sports car, is a very good number. The driving sensation is described as fun and visceral, there is no model with which we can make a comparison.
This classic, now updated with multimedia entertainment and new security system, gives you a 0 to 100 in 4.2 seconds, data that speaks very well of all the evolution that this car has undergone since 1963, the year of its launch.
If you want a sports car that fulfills its daily function, but also allows you to escape to the tracks on a weekend, the Porsche Carrera 911 is the perfect choice.
This generation of the 911, from its basic package, mounts a 3.0 liter twin turbo boxer engine with 385 horsepower at 6500 revolutions and a maximum torque of 450 Newton per meter ranging from 1950 to 5000 revolutions per minute. These characteristics make it capable of 0 to 100 in 4.2 seconds and 0 to 200 in 14.2 seconds with a top speed of 293 kilometers per hour, very good figures for this incredibly fun to drive car.
This model being supercharged, has two turbochargers and intercoolers, so each of them is fed by each bank of cylinders. The intercoolers, which are a heat exchanger, are placed in this version in a central position under the rear hood grille, which improves the intake and exhaust of cold air. This is partly why it achieves significantly better thermal efficiency than previous versions.
Despite having such impressive performance, the average consumption approved by Euro6 was 9 liters per 100 kilometers in mixed cycle, making it one of the most environmentally friendly models in the segment. With dimensions of 4.5 meters long and 1.8 meters wide and a weight of 1505 kg, it is a fairly compact and light car for the power provided by its engine. The base model mounts 19-inch alloy wheels on the front axle with 235-millimeter-wide tires and 20-inch wheels on the rear, with 295-millimeter-wide tires.
The Porsche 911 Carrera is equipped with a PDK transmission, which is the unpronounceable acronym for Porsche Doppelkungsgetriebe, which means dual clutch transmission, and is responsible for making changes in milliseconds without interrupting the delivery of traction to the wheels.
This system basically consists of mounting two boxes in a single body, with two axles and two clutches, but installed in such a way that one of the driving sets is mounted inside the other.
With this we can get that while a speed occurs in one of the sets, the other is already engaged in the other, and that is why at no time power is lost.
In terms of equipment, the Carrera includes a digital instrument panel with a 10.9-inch touch screen, which integrates multimedia connectivity solutions, and a driving assistance system known as Wet Mode.
Another option offered is the Sport mode that allows you to choose between a more comfortable or sportier suspension with the push of a button, also the electronic engine control tunes it in such a way that it provides a sportier response. Shifts immediately occur later so you can squeeze the full power out of the engine,
The exhaust system opens up to give a more aggressive sound, with Sport mode the 911 reacts more dynamically to the steering wheel and with Sport Plus mode, the Porsche active suspension system comes into play. The steered rear axle provides sportier damping and much smoother corner entry.
The design of the Porsche 911 was created more than half a century ago, but it remains current and the company says the secret is a harmonious and timeless overall concept. This 2+2 configuration car is by definition an ideal compact sports car and thoroughbred, which can also be faced with certain challenges of everyday life.
With its classic Boxer engine located in the rear, it guarantees permanent traction due to the weight distribution, which gives it that characteristic attitude that drivers praise so much about this car. This eighth generation results from the sum of all its predecessors so it has a certain nostalgia, but also points to the future.
Porsche uses a single line for the design of your 911 and call it “Fly Line” which consists of a long flat hood, a windshield with a rise, very marked and a roof line that ends almost at the end of the car. This is a design element that has been characteristic since the first 911 more than 50 years ago. But the most prominent element of the 911 design is undoubtedly the rear where its six-cylinder heart beats, and that is the basis on which its shape was raised.
