Tesla Model X information
Tesla Motors is the electric car company founded by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, who is also the owner of Space X. Musk’s vision led him to create this company with the vision of massifying electric cars, and it seems he is succeeding.
The company’s latest utility model is the Model X, a 7-seater car with two electric motors and all-wheel drive that comes out of the Fremont, California company and is based on the Model S design.
The Model X is a mid-point between minivan and SUV, with a capacity of 7 full seats, and with a validated range of 400 kilometers, the latter may vary depending on the speed of the vehicle and driving style.
If you are an environmentally considerate person, which we greatly appreciate and applaud, this model will be your almost certain choice over all the competition.
The Model X is getting people talking, mainly for being an electric and environmentally friendly car, but also for its performance. This 2020 Tesla introduces to the market the Model X 100D and Model X P100D, which definitely have to be taken into account, since the 100D, comes with a very attractive 612 horsepower, and a zero to 100 in 3.1 seconds, a tenth of a second faster than an Audi R8 V10 Plus.
Electric cars are somewhat difficult to assimilate for purists. But it’s the future and we must adapt, testing doesn’t cost anything, they are very well designed cars with rather “super sports” characteristics, overthrowing the myth that sports cars are “boring”. All this without mentioning the safety upgrades included in this Model X, something never seen before in a combustion car, so, the future is now.
The Model X has two engines and a gearbox each, one set is located on the rear axle and the other on the front axle, which by definition gives the car All Wheel Drive traction.
In both commercial models the front engine is 262 horsepower, while in the rear varies, being in the 90D model equal to 262 horsepower, in the P90D model is 510.
In a conventional all-wheel drive car, this is achieved through a complex transmission system composed of gimbals, while in the Model X the front and rear engines have no mechanical communication.
The motors are three-phase AC induction electric motors, with copper rotor and 4 poles, which regenerate charge through the regenerative braking system.
Tesla found a solution to the problem of having reverse, but maintaining the use of a single gear, and is that by simply reversing the phases of the current we get reverse the direction of rotation and get reverse gear.
The car has quite formidable dimensions, with 5 meters long, a wheelbase of 2.96 meters, a width of 2.2 meters wide with mirrors, and a ground clearance ranging from 137 millimeters to 211, depending on the equipment.
Another very important technical feature is aerodynamics, as with a drag coefficient of 0.25, the Tesla Model X is 20% more efficient than the SUV in second place.
The Model X transmission is only offered automatic, as it has only one gear for each motor, which offers a virtually straight torque curve, something that no combustion model can achieve. Let’s remember that in an electric motor all the torque is immediately available.
Tesla has been characterized by its intention to change the automotive world, to take the first steps to achieve autonomous driving, and it is trying to achieve this through design elements and technological elements.
The Model X is designed to provide the maximum possible safety, and one of the ways to achieve this is by equipping a visibility system of a level that a driver could never reach. This system consists of 8 cameras that generate a 360-degree view working in conjunction with 12 ultrasonic sensors that detect objects in the vicinity of the vehicle.
It also mounts a front radar that allows it to see through very dense rain, fog and dust, even in front of another vehicle, which translates into a large number of avoidable accidents.
Model X has more cargo space than any other SUV in the segment, and it also has room for seven adults, but if storage volume is what you need. The second and third row seats can be folded flat to create a huge amount of space.
Other interior highlights of Model X include heated seats and a heated steering wheel.
It offers many comfort and design options both exterior and interior. On the exterior, its most outstanding feature is the active safety and collision avoidance system, its air purification system, electric four-wheel drive. It includes adaptive air suspension that raises and lowers the height of the vehicle as selected, dynamic LED lights of various positions, and heated side mirrors to prevent fogging.
Internally, Model X is unmatched in its segment, employing LED ambient lighting, a huge panoramic windshield, the largest on the market. Falcon-wing doors offer a very comfortable entry and exit of the vehicle, especially in the three-row seating model. You find an automatic opening front door, and an interior storage capacity of 2180 liters.
Definitely the Falcon Wings doors, or falcon wings are the most prominent design element of the Model X, with a slight reference to the mythical gull wings of Mercedes Benz, only need 31 centimeters to deploy as they articulate slowly upwards.
All these features make it stand firm competition to cars like the Jaguar IPACE, or the Audi E-tron and soon the BMW iX3.
