Tesla is an all-electric car company located in Palo Alto and Silicon Valley, both in the United States, and founded in 2003 by Marc Tarpenning but currently led by Elon Musk. Tesla had a clear goal since its founding, to develop a fully electric car, which was a challenge, because it was necessary to invent the complete powertrain, with motor, battery pack, and control software.
Tesla achieved its goal in a tremendously successful way. An electric car has several advantages over a combustion car, the first and most obvious being its environmental friendliness, but it is also technically superior because it has far fewer moving parts than a conventional car.
Tesla designed a single gearbox for the Model S and Roadster that combined with the low weight of the cars provides impressive torque delivery. The Tesla Roadster, their first model, came to market at a high price, but it laid the financial foundation for the company, and showed the world that it was possible to build a high performance electric car, leaving aside the image of an ugly and slow car that they had previously held.
Tesla currently offers the Model S, Model X and Model 3, with a range of 1000 kilometers, 465 kilometers, and 500 kilometers respectively and in their best-equipped versions. The company has plans to market more models that cover every aspect of the market, but the Model X, however, is an SUV with immense cargo space and highly advanced entertainment technology, which has proven to be a sales leader worldwide.
Partly also, because of its safety features, with driving assist, parking assist, lane change assist and an emergency braking system that if it detects an imminent collision will give an audible and visual alarm but ultimately stop the car dead in its tracks. Tesla’s impact has been so great in the automotive world that it has collaborated with other manufacturers, such as Mercedes Benz, in which it collaborated with the development of the engine for the A-Class E-Cell, or the Toyota Rav4 EV.
Tesla has also invested in developing the systems for its cars from scratch, which is why the company began construction of its so-called Gigafactory in Reno, Nevada, where it plans to build the batteries for its cars and reduce production costs by up to 30%. Tesla is the most sensible option if you are interested in high performance cars, comfort and safety, but also if you want to be friendly with nature, since being an electric car the harmful carbon dioxide emissions are non-existent.
Definitely this company that started being quite small has changed in a way the direction of the automotive industry, motivating the competition to develop electric cars and sustainable technologies, but without abandoning the sporty and pleasing to the eye design lines.
